Oswego Community


The community of Oswego is working to keep its small town characteristics. Thus, it is an excellent place to raise a family. People has been known to move to area because of its excellent schools. Community Unit District 308 has been known in the Chicago land area as having real high standards. Enrollment increased every year.


Oswego History


William Smith Wilson and his wife, Rebecca Wilson were the first settlers in Oswego. Their families move into the area in 1833. The area expanded within that year, added two new business. The U.S. Government survey in 1837 recorded of about 30 wooden buildings. Hotels such as National Hotel on Main Street, the Kendall House and others were built to service the stagecoach passengers and other travelers going through town. In the mid 1980s, housing boom to accommodate development in the area. In 1990 the U.S. Census recorded Oswego's population as 3,875. Seven years after the population fluctuated to 9,000.

Oswego Recreation


Oswego land Park District offers to the community an abundance of recreational activities and programs. For example, the new aquatic center, bike trails, and hundreds of acres of parks. Each year there are festivals, such as the Prairie Fest for the whole family.

Golf Bend Golf Course located in Oswego is recognized as on the the top twenty public courses in the Chicago land area. Also, the pro shop at Fox Bend was voted in the Golf Digest as one of the top 100 golf shops in America.

Starved Rock State Park
Starved Rock State Park is in Utica, IL. The park is open year round. There are nature trails for hiking, site seeing overlooking the Illinois River. There are abundance of activities like picnics, fishing, boating, horseback riding, camping, winter sports.

Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Park area
At the park there are picnic, fishing, hunting, canoeing, hiking, cross country skiing, sledding. There are hunting ground for dove, squirrel, deer, crow. The lake has Small Mouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Crappie, Bullhead, Blue Gill, and Rainbow Trout usually stocked in Loon Lake in April and October.
